A power list of African women is targeting sexual abuse as the key barrier to gender equality and development.

At greatest peril are the girl-child, the disabled, the aged, and women. Though evident in many countries, women and children are most in danger in armed conflict zones in Nigeria, Congo, Rwanda, Somalia, Angola, Sudan, Liberia, and Burundi.

Meeting in Johannesburg in December, Women Advancement Forum speakers will call for new laws to empower the most vulnerable.

The WAF high flyers in business, professions, politics and charities have strong backing from national and global organisations.

Award winners will pledge to “make our girls and youths aware of the possibility of becoming entrepreneurs, parliamentarians, CEOs, and reputable persons in the society”.
